The current third place of the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Sky, ended the home-winning streak that Seattle Storm had after beating them this past Sunday with a score 86-81.
The three point-shooter of Chicago, Kristi Toliver contributed with 6 of 8 three-pointers to lead her team to the victory. Also, Candice Dupree helped her team Chicago with some good jumpers and despite the difficulty of playing at Seattle, the Sky handled the pressure and stayed close to the Storm until the end of the game. This victory of the Sky means the conclusion of 5 straight wins at home for the Storm.
Since the beginning of the game, both teams started very focused and motivated by controlling the actions. Candice Dupree was shooting incredible, ending the first quarter with 9 points for the Sky whereas Tanisha Wright ended with 6 points in free throws for the Storm. Chicago concluded with a 2 point lead 19-17 in the initial quarter. In the second quarter, things kept tied between the two teams, specially with the great performance of Toliver, who made 4 three pointers in the quarter while Cash scored 8 points for the Storm to end at half time 42-42.
During the third quarter, it was clear that none of the teams wanted to lose as they both were equally managing the actions. Toliver and Dupree were contributing for the Chicago Sky whereas the Seattle Storm were working as a team and almost all of the roster players were contributing in some way. At the end of the third quarter the score finished 61-61.
In the decisive quarter, both teams kept fighting until the end, but a great run of Jia Perkins, a key three point shot of Dupree with 1:14 left and four free throws of Toliver and Perkins respectively, gave the Chicago Sky the win.
At the end of the game, Toliver expressed that it was a difficult match but it was a key win for Chicago.
"It's a tough place to play. It was crucial for us to get this win. It started with veteran leadership in the locker room before the game. I got some good minutes in so I wanted to make the most of it," expressed Kristi Toliver.
The best scorers for the Chicago Sky were Candice Dupree with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, Kristi Toliver with 22 points and 7 assists, Jia Perkins with 16 points and 3 rebounds and lastly Sylvia Fowles with 4 points and 5 rebounds. For the Seattle Storm the best scorers were Lauren Jackson with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, Tanisha Wright with 18 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds, Swin Cash with 14 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds and finally Janell Burse with 13 points and 4 rebounds.
The next game for the Chicago Sky will be against the first place of the Eastern Conference the Indiana Fever and will be on July 15th whereas the Seattle Storm will play on the same day against the Detroit Shock at home.
