The running back position of the Washington Redskins, Clinton Portis got injured in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals the last Sunday night when he dislocated his left shoulder during the match.
Suddenly the football player sees himself in the sidelines for an indefinite period. According with Redskins’ coach Joe Gibbs, it’s hard to say how much time is Portis going to be out of the field, but it will take a while.
Now after the 19-3 losses the only things Portis can do is watch and wait to have a good recovery and get back on the field.
Portis is the owner of a 1,516 yards record which last season placed the Redskins on the playoffs when they played as a wild-card team.
Now the team is just wondering how they will handle the season without its best running back on the field. Actually Clinton, as a player, probably feels disappointed and disturbed, is not really easy to be out of the game field when playing means maybe the most important part of your life.
The accident
Clinton started the game with an 8-yard carry, blocking Mark Brunell’s passes but when his sixth throw was intercepted by Keiwan Ratliff (cornerback), Portis ran him down and made the tackle. When he hit Ratliff his left arm was extended, knocking the bone part of the way out of the shoulder socket. Into the main treatment he needs to rest and to have a strengthening routine of exercise.
Now the running game will be on the backup Ladell Betts hands. The player ran for 338 yards last season and missed four games because of a knee injury.
