UEFA Champions League - Arsenal crushes SC Braga by 6-0

Arsenal FC began its run in the UEFA Champions League with an outstanding 6-0 win over SC Braga in the first game of the group stage in this prestigious European championship.

It took only a couple of minutes for Arsenal to really push the guys from SC Braga to their limit. They were playing in the Emirate Stadium, and the Gunners wanted to prove who was the boss there. The Gunners controlled the possession from early on, and were able to break into Braga’s defense with ease. There was not much left for the visiting team but to move its lines back and defend its goal.

With a solid base and really making good use of its clear dominance, Arsenal was able to work Felipe, Braga’s hard-worked keeper. He had to go into overdrive mode to block the many shots on goal he was receiving from Arsenal’s offensive end.

The English offense seemed a bit too much for Braga, and the guys from Braga began to loose their patience. This agitation among the visiting team pushed Felipe to make a faul upon Cesc Fabregas inside the penalty box.

Fabragas, the team captain, was in charge of taking the penalty kick. The Spaniard was able to open the score after he completed a great kick. This gave Arsenal the advantage after only 9 minutes of game-time.

For this new UEFA Champions League season, Arsenal, which plays in the H group, wants to return to the winning path they once knew five years ago. However, they also need to redeem themselves with the fans after the defeat they suffered against Barcelona in the quarterfinals last season.

After about 15 minutes of play, Braga tried to raise their tempo. This was totally useless, as Arsenal, far superior in every way, kept pressing back.

Arsenal increasingly overshadowed its opponents, who were hit by an onslaught of balls that resulted in two more goals for the local team. The second goal was made by Andrei Arshavin (30 min) after receiving a pass from Fabregas. Just four minutes later, Marouane Chamakh made the score 3-0. Towards the end of the first half, Arsenal pressure decreased slightly but the team did not stop attacking. Yet Braga failed to complete any dangerous move in the front end.

During the second half, Arsenal continued to be the absolute master of the field. For its part, Braga was not able to organize its lines and minute by minute, was sinking deeper and deeper in its inferiority.

The team coached by Arsene Wenger took advantage of the Portuguese to continue with the goals. In the 54th minute, Fabregas delighted the crowd with a second goal.

Arsenal did not settle for a 4-0 win. Motivated by the lead over its rival, the English team kept improving its game. Approaches to the opponent's goal did not stop until Carlos Vela to increase the winning margin to 5-0 in the 69th minute, a move that he repeated in the 84th minute. Thus, Arsenal is now first in group H.
