The experienced Gonzalez played in an incredible way and his powerful weapon, his forehand, helped him to get a ticket to the semifinals at Roland Garros. On the other hand, the Scot didn’t have a good game with his powerful backhand and he couldn’t deal with the impressive hits of his opponent, who took advantage of his great moment to win the game. During the first set, Fernando Gonzalez started aggressively by breaking Murray’s serve and taking a lead of 5-3. However, in the third set Murray didn’t do much to repel Gonzalez’s attacks whereas the Chilean played perfect and won the set 6-0. Throughout the fourth set, Gonzalez broke again to take another 5-3 lead and then served for the match but Murray tried to come back with made a great move and broke Gonzalez to a 5-4 score. However, Murray’s sudden energy didn't last long since he played poorly at the end and Gonzalez won the game with great conviction, closing the fourth and final set with a 6-4.

Murray didn’t have a good serve on the game and his experience in clay hasn’t been so good for the Scot, who has had his better performances in hard courts and grass. Nevertheless, this year the Briton’s game in clay been getting considerably better and even though he couldn’t advance to the semifinals in Roland Garros, the Scottish is happy with his improvement and his results in the past clay tournaments. At the end of the game, Murray praised Gonzalez game and forehand, which he found really extraordinary.

“Some guys can hit huge forehands when they're in the middle the court. Some guys hit huge forehand returns. He can hit his forehand from anywhere on the court. Maybe I hit a few too many balls to his forehand. But his one-two punch off his serve and the forehand today was pretty impressive. He also played a perfect third set,” expressed the 22-year-old Scottish.

On the other hand, Gonzalez expressed he tried to control the match with his forehand since he knew that it disturbed Murray a lot when the balls rebounded high. As well, he knew that he has a lot more experience on clay than the Scottish, which gave him another advantage. This was clear as the Chilean took every chance that Murray gave him on the match and that definitely made a difference for Gonzalez.

Now in the semifinals, Fernando Gonzalez will be facing Robin Soderling, who has made a huge impression in the tournament after beating the world No.1 and four-time defending champion Rafael Nadal. This also comes as a great opportunity for the Chilean as the King of Clay is no longer in the tournament, and this promises a very different final of the French Open this year.
