Clear the Deck for a Sunroom

Sunrooms from GazeboCreations.com are charming their way into backyards all over the country. It’s easy to understand the attraction to these backyard structures, because they accommodate some of our greatest passions. For one thing, they allow us to enjoy the best of the outdoors, including breath-taking views, while sheltering us from the harsh elements. That’s a big point in their favor, as one of the biggest trends of the past several years has been to bring the outdoors inside, and vice versa.

Sunrooms also offer something that has gone from being a luxury to an essential. They provide backyard sanctuaries, where we can escape the madding crowd, for some rest, recreation, rejuvenation, and reinvigoration.

A sunroom from GazeboCreations.com can also be used as an extra room, a place for entertaining, a home office, a spa, a guesthouse, and just about anything else. At GazeboCreations.com, you can use the Sunroom Designer to create a spectacular sunroom in just a few steps, choosing from dozens of options, including several colors of vinyl siding, shingles, and trim, as well as finished interiors, insulation, ceiling fans, cupolas, window boxes, and more.

With all of the different sizes and shapes in which they are available, sunrooms can fit almost any place. Besides putting them in the backyard, many people are integrating their sunrooms with their decks, to create extended living spaces that are conveniently close to the house, while still maintaining a sense of seclusion.

Whether or not this is your intention, you should always keep your deck strong and sturdy. One way to ensure its ongoing fitness is to regularly inspect its boards, as trapped moisture, over the years, can cause them to rot. If you find that this has happened, you should replace the affected board(s) immediately, especially if it is load-bearing. If the board is nailed down, use a pry bar to remove the nails; use a screwdriver for deck screws. If you are having trouble getting them out, you may have to cut them out from below the deck, using a reciprocating saw.

While you’re there, examine the joist underneath. If it is partly rotted, remove the affected areas with a hammer and a chisel. You will fill these spots in with epoxy wood filler; but if the wood is wet, be sure to let it dry first. Use pressure treated lumber to cut another joist for reinforcement, and, after the wood filler is dry, attach it to the original joist with lag bolts.

Your new deck board should be cut to the exact length and width of the original one, and treated with a water-repellent stain/sealer. After it is completely dry, put it into place, and fasten it to the joist, using galvanized nails or deck screws.

No matter what you are using your deck for, with proper care, it will always be solid and secure enough to support whatever you ask of it. Likewise, when you get a sunroom from GazeboCreations.com, you can be certain that it will be prepared for any use that you have in mind for it. At GazeboCreations.com, you can customize as many sunrooms as you wish, save them to your personal gallery, and change them anytime you want to.
