Money, they say, can’t buy happiness. But it might be able to win championships. Manchester City has experimented exponential financial growth since it was bought by a Dubai based firm, and the results are starting to show. Manchester City has just defeated Liverpool in a 3-0 sweep, proving that they are one of the most competitive and powerful teams in the English Premiere League.
If you have been following Manchester City’s performance for a while now, you might remember those terrible moments when the team actually fell not only from the English Premiere League, but its subsequent lower division, and finished playing in the Division Two, or what it is now called Football League One. Even then, surprisingly enough, Manchester City’s loyal fans kept on cheering for their team each weekend. They were able to maintain their attendance toll in the 30,000 range, when most team playing in Division Two had to struggle to bring in 8,000 fans into their stadiums.
But things have certainly changed for Manchester City in the more recent years. Since the team won the League Championship back in 1976, the team has failed to bring in the Premiere League Championship back to the Manchester City Stadium. Sure, as we mentioned, the team was relegated three times in the 1990’s, but they have certainly made a good comeback, regaining their competitive spirit and still showing that the team has what it takes to win the big prize. In 2008, the Abhu Dhabi United Group, bought the team. Manchester City is now fully owned by HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
It seemed the Sheikh Mansour could not have picked a better day to watch a live league game of the team he recently bought. It has to be said that Mr. Mansour has spent over $1 billion in the team, not only did he bring in great players from around the globe, hired a fine head coach as Roberto Mancini, but has also made exhaustive improvements on the sports complex.
The Manchester City was simply far too much of a team for the guys over at Liverpool. This 3-0 is the biggest beating The Citizens have been able to put on the Liverpool team since 1937.
James Milner had a great debut with Manchester City. Not only was he dominant and key to the offensive development of the team, he was also the responsible for Gareth Barry’s opener after only 13 minutes of play. Once the second half kicked in, Carlos Tevez, the Argentinean striker, proved he is still on fire and claimed he had touched the ball after Micah Richards header. That gave The Citizens an early 2-0 lead in the second half.
It was again Carlos Tevez completed the 3-0 from the penalty kick. Pepe Reina, the Liverpool’s keeper tried to stop the ball but he played his cards on the wrong side. Truth be said, the boys from Manchester City made it look easy, a bit to easy. And for the first time in many years, it seems as if they could really make it to the end and win the English Premiere League Championship. Mancini has the ingredients and the financial support he need to bring the championship home. Now it is going to be a matter of keeping the momentum and his extensive crew upbeat, and they might very well win it.
