DROITWICH residents got the party started with celebrations across the town to formally mark the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Residents in Corbett Street, Shepherds Hill and Greenbank and part of Cockshute Hill joined Ravenscroft Drive residents in holding street parties.

The events were among 14 street parties across Wychavon which were boosted by the district council waiving the administration fees normally required.

And nowhere was the patriotic spirit more evident than in the Spa’s schools homecoming dress , with many hosting events and their own mock weddings to mark the day.

Youngsters at Wychbold First and Nursery School enjoyed a street party on the playground before taking to the stage for a musical concert for parents and friends.

And children at St Peter’s CE First School enjoyed learning all about the Royal Family in preparation for the wedding and held their own ‘ prom dresses mock’ wedding during school assembly.

Pupils also celebrated by holding a ‘Royal Picnic&#8217 short black dresses short black dresses ; which saw them dress in red graduation dresses graduation dresses, white and blue and bring along a range of interesting and exciting themed picnics.

Headteacher Tracey O’Keeffe-Pullen said: “This was a wonderful way to celebrate such a historic event.

Youngsters at Westlands First School got to the church on time for their own version of the Royal Wedding which was held at St Nicholas’ Church

‘Bride’ Ola Poziemska and ‘groom’ Harry Corker tied the knot during the service led by the Rev David Owen which was attended by town mayor Coun Lynne Duffy.

Bethany and Kathryn Jones were bridesmaids for the ‘ceremony’ while Ben Ashmore was chosen as the ‘ prom gowns prom gownsbest man’ and afterwards all of the key stage one children enjoyed a celebration picnic.
