fashion legend Zandra Rhodes is looking to Coventry to find a top student to help her give Lady Godiva an Olympics makeover.
Zandra is working with fashion design students from Coventry University on an outfit fit for Godiva to wear to next year’s London Olympics.
She met students last week to set a design brief which will see the winner working alongside her to produce garments for the Godiva Awakes project being organised by Coventry’s Imagineer Productions.
Coventry University’s Kollette Super said: “It is very exciting to present our students with the opportunity to work with legendary fashion designer Zandra Rhodes.”
The project will see a 10 metre-high Godiva travel from Coventry to London next year powered by 50 cyclists and accompanied by a team of performers.
Zandra is planning to create a transparent modern-style medieval ‘shift’ garment for Godiva for her trip with gold hand-painted sections and trailing sleeves. Over the dress will be an “iron” corset decorated with mirrored flowers.

Zandra will judge the students designs shortly and the winner will work with her to hand-paint the gown’s panels at her London workroom.
