MLB Doping – Mitchell’s Report

The American Sport of baseball has been hit this week despite the fact the use of strength powering substances is known by many for a long time; other sectors have pressured in order to promote investigations and avoid that some people keep ignoring the situation while the rest of the world is trying to fight against it.

George Mitchell ex leader of the democratic majority in the Senate between 1989 and 1995, was in charge of researching the use of doping substances by players. Last Tuesday he presented his 409 pages report, slowly, legal consequences are starting to be taken as a summary Mitchell said; the use of drugs was general and advised the MLB to create an anti-drug investigation center.

From this point on; the history of baseball will change as there will be fines for the violation the federal laws; more than half of the players involved have already retire. Mitchell asked to start from zero and look to the future. Names and specific information are expected while Mitchell has a list of almost 100 from the 3,000 players from the major league many teams are implicated. Besides the known ones such as Barry Bonds who is actually facing a trial for perjury and justice obstruction for the use of illegal substances. Mitchell said “They are not isolated cases. One or more player from the thirty clubs have taken drugs. First anabolic and then growing hormones that were not detected until 2005.”

There is also information about the people that prepared and supplied the products, but also none of the players wanted to gather with him to discuss the situation or admit the consumption of these drugs. Between the names mentioned was Roger Clemens a very shocking case due to his fame as one of the best pitchers of all times… there are eight pages about him in the report.

Brian McNamee in charge of preparing New York Yankees’ strength admitted he had given anabolic products to Clemens and Andy Pettitte who always used hormones more specifically since 2002; but mysteriously none of them had positive results on the tests and Pettitte signed an extension with the Yankees for one more year; a 16 million dollars contract.

Part of the evidence collected there are even payment checks to buy doping; the Players Association and everyone involved had only said that every case will be studied though nobody seems to give the importance that this matter deserve.
