Italian Serie A – Milan with heavy artillery

The arrival of Ibrahimovic and Robinho, added to the talent of Ronaldinho and Pato give Milan one of the best forward line-ups in Europe.

Milan’s present has been far from what their fans would have wanted it to be, added to the titles drought, they have been living the last years overshadowed by their classic rival: Inter. As if that was not enough, this past season Inter extended its domain from Italy to Europe, after wining the Serie A, Copa de Italia, and UEFA Champions League. The Rossoneri have waited until the last week of the transfer market to make their move, and fans couldn’t be happier with their new signings: Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho, who will join Ronaldinho and Pato in attack.

With the first leg of the Serie A already completed, the Rossoneri march in first place after their 4 to 0 win against Lecce, and to ensure that the things will remain the same until the end of the season, owner Silvio Berlusconi has done a wonderful job negotiating the transfers of Ibrahimovic and Robinho to Milan. Coach Massimiliano Allegri will have at his disposition an enviable front line, which will be vital in their hopes to win titles.

The Swedish’s arrival has set very high expectations in the team, despite all the controversy created around him and former coach Joseph Guardiola, which ended with Ibrahimovic’s arrival to Milan. He still has a great reputation in Italy, product of his 92 goals, and 45 assists in 207 games playing for Juventus and Inter. The striker comes to Milan in search of his glory days, after a disappointing ending to his Spanish adventure, where he was able to score 22 goals in 42 matches, numbers that were not considered good enough for a player that cost €66 million, even though his performance was not the root of the problem, but his agent, Mino Raiola was. His agent’s public appearances served for nothing but to create tension between Ibra and Guardiola.

Coincidence or not, Robinho has landed to Milan due to a very similar situation: issues with his coach and a negotiation led by Mino Raiola. The 26 year old Brazilian forward played on loan for his former club in Brazil, Santos, over the course of the year, after seeing his playing chances decreased with Italian coach Roberto Mancini. During the beginning of the summer the media speculated with a possible trade involving Robinho and Ibrahimovic, but Guardiola putted and end to this possibility, as he was not convinced of what effect Robinho’s temperament would have had in the locker room.

With these two incorporations, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been forced to leave from Milan to Schalke 04, after closing a €13 million deal. Now the Dutch will reunite with his teammate from Real Madrid, Raul, in a team where both of them will have more leadership than what they were recently experiencing in their clubs. Another player who had no choice, but to follow Huntelaar’s path is Marco Borriello, as he was not going to count with the minutes of game that he would have wanted. Having Ibravimovic, Robinho, Pato and Inzaghi as direct competition made him decide that the best thing to do was to go on loan to Roma, where he will enjoy of more chances while Adriano recovers from his injury.
