GODDESS DAVID BLATT
David Blatt started its Eurobasket 2007 battle during qualifiers a year earlier and ceiled an amazing dash to the title on September 16 by whipping host and World Champion Spain in the finals 60-59. Russia first in Europe automatically earned the participation in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. During the tournament Spain was the crown favorite to confine the title, while Russia shared 10th place. In any circumstances the story was different, Russia dominated in the continental basketball in hand of Coach David Blatt and had a tremendous success.
In the early years, Coach Blatt won Ivy League titles in his junior and senior seasons, where he played point guard and led a team that only lost one game in the league played and also defeated Penn in a one game playoff to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Following Princeton, he played professional basketball in Israel until 1993. He then worked as assistant coach and shortly head coach for Hapoel Galil Elyon and the perennial supremacy Maccabi Tel Aviv. He won title of Coach of the Year honors two times in Israel, while also winning the 2004 EuroLeague with Maccabi Tel Aviv and working as an assistant to the Israeli national team. In 2004, he won the EuroCup in his first year with Dynamo St. Petersburg. For the 2005-06 season, he led Italian side Pallacanestro Treviso to the Italian championship, while also signing as head coach for the Russian national team.
David Blatt experience is large and extended. Anybody can see it in its accomplishments over the years. He has been from Princeton to Israel to Italy to Russia to Turkey and be successful just about everywhere.
Furthermore the Russian national basketball member and MVP Andrei Kirinlenko recently said,
“The role of U.S-born Israeli coach David Blatt was vital to Russia’s triumphing in the Eurobasket Tournament.”
Kirilenko contrasted his intended style of coaching to that of a chess player. “Like on a chess board, he arranged his pieces ideally. Most of the younger players wanted to prove they were willing and ready.”
He added, "David has again proven that discipline can sometimes overcome quality. There were better teams than us in the European championship, but Blatt managed to make the most of every player in his position... we just did everything right and took gold with a bit of luck but with lots of wisdom on Blatt's part."
With his conquest with Russia in the Eurobasket tournament now Coach David Blatt has devoted to coach and work for this huge tournament, which will attribute basketball powers from the Americas and Europe. Blatt enjoyed the new challenge of playing against world powers like Brazil, Argentina and the United States, but he confessed that the overall value of EuroBasket is actually deeper.
