Fernando Alonso, the Spanish driver from Ferrari, won this weekend at Singapore, his fourth win of the season, and the second first-place finish in a row in this current Formula One World Championship.
Alonso began the race in second place and had a good race from the moment he exited the starting grid. From there on, he kept on putting an amazing driving performance. He stayed in front of the group for most of the 61 laps. The only moment he lost the lead momentarily came in the 33rd lap, when he made a pit stop to refuel and change tires.
With complete control of his car and with an unquestionable authority, Alonso showed that he is one of the better-trained pilots. His vast experience is yet another factor that makes him one of the favorites to win the championship.
In the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Fernando Alonso had to redouble his efforts to keep his coveted position in the front. It was a very difficult test for the two-time world champion (2005, 2006), as during the entire he was followed closely by Sebastian Vettel.
Vettel was the great rival of Alonso during the entire competition. The German driver from Red Bull remained stuck to the powerful F10 from start to end.
All the cameras and the fans attention was place on these two pilots, who were in charge of spicing up the race. It was a very even contest. Both drivers kept succeeding each other marking the fastest laps. That was the tone the first half of the race.
Lap after lap, Alonso and Vettel were each on their target. And yet, it became clear that Vettel’s vehicle would not be as fast as the Spaniard’s.
Behind every action of the leaders, the other riders were also looking ahead into one another. In the middle came a heavy crash between Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton. The British driver smashed his car and lost his chances to score some points for his pursuit to the drivers championship.
Towards the end of the race, Alonso remained in front of the competition. For his part, Vettel but couldn’t find a way to surpass him. Alonso managed to cross the finish line first, followed by Vettel. Mark Webber completed the podium.
After the result on the Singapore’s Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has 25 points (191) and is now second in the drivers' standings, which is led by Mark Webber with 202 units.
Despite the short gap between Alonso and Webber acknowledged that the close proximity among the top five drivers in the classification further complicates the championship.
