Democrats, Here is Your Chance to Eliminate Republican Dictatorship
American made history on Wednesday night by electing the first woman house speaker in its history. Also on a side note, the first Moslem congressman, Keith Ellison, was elected from Minnesota’s fifth congressional district. This is the end of Republican’s fiefdom in the Capitol Hill. Say Good bye to neocons and right-wingers’ visions of a one party dictatorial Government. The American people have spoken, notably the Democrats and the independents who were tired of all the lies, deceptions, and spins of Republican party.
The Democrats should not loose sight of how and why they reclaimed their rightful place in the history. It was painful and comical to watch the commentators of Sox News, claiming to be fair and balanced journalists. We will see how they perform in the upcoming days.
Abrupt withdrawal of American forces from Iraq is not a mainstream policy of Democrats, though the President, unsuccessfully, tried to portrait them as “cut and run” bunch. But the majority of American people, except the ditto heads, know better and they responded to Bush’s propaganda accordingly. Also, neither the Congress makes war policies nor should it get involved in that business. So, when someone asks you what this alternative Democrat’s are proposing, tell the ditto head that is not what Congress is supposed to do. It is the job of the President, Secretary of Defense and the military personnel. The Congress has the power of the purse and how money is spent. They will not write and blank check to President every time he asks for money without proper oversight of the war. And this Congress is going to provide that oversight which did not exist in the last five years.
Nancy Pelosi has promised a few things like eliminating corruption, changing prescription bill so that the federal government can negotiate with the drug companies for prescription prices in Medicare, increasing the minimum wage. She her party should get back to work to deliver that to the American people. Democrats, when you deliver your promises, take credit for that. Not let Bush take credit for your hardworks.
Don’t try to rollback all of Bush’s tax cut. That is surely comeback to bite you during the next election cycle. Prove to American people that you are not tax and spend party. However, a few Bush’s tax breaks that benefit the wealthiest persons in this country should be put on the table for negotiation. We cannot have complete elimination of inheritance tax. That is unfair to American society because society is responsible to the creation of individual wealth. Explain to American people what taxes are affected and who are affected by the tax changes.
Put a leash on spending. Come up with a plan to reduce federal deficits gradually. Day and night pound your achievement using any means necessary. Don’t loose sight of the 2008 presidential election. You need to win that one to completely eliminate Republican’s dream of perpetuating one party dream.
