Introducing Your Child to the Wonders of Photography

Give a child a camera and you have given them a time machine which will create wonders and may, at some time in the future, be considered family treasures. Expect that, at first, film will just be used quickly in order to see the pictures, but be patient, this will soon be over and selectivity will begin to be shown.

You will undoubtedly be treated to some early shots of grandma as a headless wonder, but these will also be accompanied by some unexpected jewels. As the young photographer learns more about his or her new hobby and why grandma’s head was not in the picture, skills will begin to develop and you will start to see a legend of the world through the eyes of a six year old, or whatever age your young photographer is, begin to emerge.

Is Your Child Ready for Piano Lessons?

Music lessons build confidence, help with concentration, and can even improve math ability. Piano lessons are a great way to begin, but it can be a frustrating experience if your child is not ready. Here are 5 questions to ask before you begin piano lessons.

1. How Old is Your Child?

Although age is not a perfect indicator of piano lesson readiness, most children are ready for piano lessens when they are five to seven years old. Some are ready as young as three; others should wait until they are eight.

If your child meets all the other criteria, you should begin piano lessons, even if your child is very young.

Fungal Infections and Children

Body:

Whether you know it or not, fungus is a type of organism that lives on every person all over the world. Most of the time, this organism is harmless, however, when conditions are just right it can cause a fungal infection. Even children can have fungal infections.

Some fungal infections are highly contagious which means they can spread from one person to another by a simple touch of a person infected. Fungus needs a warm, dark, and humid place to grow so such areas as pools, locker rooms, public showers and even their socks and shoes are a great place for fungal infections to start.

The most common types of fungal infections that are seen in children include athlete's foot and jock itch.

Educational Toys For Girls Run The Gamut

Body:

It used to be educational toys for girls included only kitchen sets, baby dolls and maybe fake cleaning equipment. And while all of those things remain important mainstays, the types of educational toys for baby girls and even little ladies has expanded greatly.

When it comes to teaching a small child lessons they need to succeed in school and life in general, few things can compare to educational toys. Masking learning in fun, these toys challenge the child's mind and abilities and help them learn skills that can last a lifetime.

Whether they're toys for babies or older girls, educational toys come in a wide variety of styles, but each has the common thread of providing something more than just fun. The best part about educational toys is that they often can get the entire family in on the act of helping the child learn.

The 10 Child Safety Devices You Need in Your Home

Body:

Did you know that you can childproof your home for a fraction of what it would cost to have a professional do it? Child safety devices are available at hardware stores, baby equipment shops, supermarkets, drug stores, home and linen stores, and through mail order catalogues.

Here are 10 child safety devices you need to help prevent injuries to young children.

1. Safety latches and locks — use on cabinets and drawers to help prevent children from gaining access to medicines and household cleaners, as well as knives and other sharp objects.

Look for safety latches and locks that adults can easily install and use, but that are sturdy enough to withstand pulls and tugs from children. Safety latches are not a guarantee of protection, but they can make it more difficult for children to reach dangerous substances. Even products with child-resistant packaging should be locked away, out of reach. A safety latch or lock usually costs less than $2.00

How to Raise Polite Children

Body:

"Raise children you like because, if you don't like them, nobody else will, and you're going to spend the rest of your life with them," warns journalist Cokie Roberts." And, since it all begins at home with the teaching of manners and a grateful attitude, how are you doing? Do your kids remember to say, "Excuse me" when it's called for? How about "please," "thank you," and "you're welcome"? If you're not hearing those words at home, then it's no wonder the rest of us aren't hearing them either! Indeed, a 2002 Public Agenda survey found that forty-eight percent of adults only sometimes encountered people who ever said "please" and "thank you;" sixteen percent said they practically never saw that kind of polite behavior.

Are Your Child's Rights At School Violated?

Body:

Most parents will agree that a good education is important. It is equally important that certain values come first in the implementing of what is being taught. For instance most parents would object to sexual education at a kinder garden or 1st grade level. Why is that? Obviously, the child has not under gone any changes, nor should the children of the world at this age be sexually active. This is a legitimate reason. The child also is not likely to understand what sex really is. This same line of thought can also apply to things they are currently being taught in schools today. Should elementary children be taught to drive a car? I would hope not! Should they be taught to be violent? Should they learn about war? Should they be taught how to get a job? For an elementary school child the answers should be no! So how is it that our schools and teachers find it relevant to make our children say the Pledge of Allegiance?

Part 3 - Child Safety And Child Protection

Body:

Unfortunately the reality is, you can't always be with your child. Occasionally your child is left in the care and supervision of other adults. As horrible as it is to imagine, the fact is, most child abductions occur by close family friends and/or other adults that the child is already familiar with. However, here are a few things you can teach your child that will empower them with the awareness they need to help keep them safe...even when you can't be there.

Let's begin...

There are "flags" that you can teach your child to be aware of, that seem to occur on a consistent bases with child abductions. One of those "flags" is that predators or would be predators often will test their potential victims. They will try and see how a child will react to seeming innocent situations. They often do this by seeing if the child can "keep a secret."

Part 2 - Child Safety And Child Protection

Body:

Were back, and in this lesson were going to discuss some easy child safety techniques you can teach your child to stay safe when your out and about in public, or when he/she might find themselves alone. But before we get started here's an interesting but frightening fact: Did you know that a child becomes missing, abducted, or lost about EVERY 40 seconds! Keep reading and let's do our best to keep your child safe today, and make sure that he/she is going to come home!

Let's get started...

This one is VERY important! If you become seperated from your child, he/she needs to know to never look for you if they become lost while shopping or in a public place. Instead, they need to go to the nearest checkout counter, security office, or lost and found, and tell the person in charge that she has lost his/her mom or dad and needs help in finding them. And they should NEVER go to a parking lot without you.
