Few years ago, it was a tradition to put the Christmas trees London after 24 December and to take it down on 6th January of each year. The people of Germany celebrate the Christmas and New Year and take the tree down only after that. With the changing times and advanced commercialism, number of trees is put either in the first or the second week of month of December. The tradition started because a number of people make use of artificial Christmas Trees. The original trees are not put up as early as it would lead to fall of needles and bare branches till the Christmas Day arrives.

The rich history of Christmas is associated with Pagan Traditions. The Celtic Druids and Norse pagans are worshipped as sign of deity because they did not die and were eternal. And they also remained fresh and green when the other plants and trees were dead and were bare during the winter.

The Scandinavian Pagans started the trend of bringing home the beautifully adorned Christmas Trees. This was actually done to attract native fairy folk as well as tree elementals in the homes for joining in the celebrations. The people who first placed the candles over the trees were the Germanic Pagan while the evergreen branches were exchanged by Romans as a good luck symbol.

The first tree of Christmas was brought by the Prince Albert of England during the year 1840’s. With the growing fashion, Christmas tree became a symbol of English Victorian Christmas. It is due to the trend introduced by Victorians that we decorate our Christmas trees today. Thus, the fashion introduced by Victorians is continued till today and will continue for the years to come.
